World OT Day: Participation Matters

by Cheryl Hall on October 25th, 2026

How are you celebrating World OT Day?

The World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) celebrates our great profession each year on October 27.

The WFOT serves as a global voice for OT representing 117 national occupational therapy organizations, more than 680,000 practitioners and over 1100 approved education programs.  The WFOT is an international advocate and leader, setting international standards for education, and promoting research and practice excellence.

“Participation Matters” is the theme for 2026 and really speaks to the heart of OT.  This theme focuses on how everyday activities, routines and roles support health, wellbeing and quality of life.  As OTs, we have witnessed time and time again how empowering a patient to be independent in a task can have a ripple effect across their lives.

For inspiration and resources, visit the World Federation of Occupational Therapists to support the organization and promote World OT day.

  • Download free logos and graphics translated into several languages so you can easily promote World OT Day across all your social media accounts. Make sure to use the hashtag – #WorldOTDay
  • Participate in the Global Day of Service and register your efforts so the collective impact can be measured. There are dozens of ideas on the WFOT website to inspire you.
  • Connect with OTs around the world on OTION – the Occupational Therapy International Online Network. This free, interactive forum invites OTs to ask a question, share a story, or just be inspired by the work of other OTs.
  • Check out QUEST, Quality Evaluation Strategy Tool, which focuses on data to demonstrate the value of OT. WFOT is offering a free course along with several other resources to help OT practitioners use quality indicators to measure impact.
  • Become a WFOT member and support their global efforts.

Happy World OT Day!
